AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
One day Eve and Anne and Helen and Martin and Lembit, all first graders, brought with them all kinds of things to school. They were going to have an art class after school.
Generally the children found it hard to decide what to make. That day it was different.
"Let's make a Klaabu," Helen suggested and everyone agreed at once.
"I have a body for him," said Lembit and placed a big white egg on the table. Actually, it was only a shell. It had been an egg before but Lembit had sucked it empty.
"I'll make his feet," said Helen and took out a box of plasticine.
"I have eyes for him," said Eve, producing two shiny buttons.
"I'll make his hands," Anne decided.
"I'll make his antennas," said Martin with a grin, waving a coil of tangled wire.
The others weren't keen on the antennas.
"He doesn't need any antennas," Helen protested. "Why should he need antennas? Anyway, what a^e they?"
Martin explained: "They're like horns^ only much better. If Klaabu should get mad at you, at least he could twist his antennas."
Now that everyone knew exactly what to make, the children set to work.
"I'll give him a face," hummed Lembit, painting the egg-shell.
"We're making his hands and feet," sang Helen and Anne, busy with the plasticine.
"These buttons are just right for his eyes," chattered Eve.
