Lecia Dole-Recio [antikvár]

Die Bedingungen des Mediums der Malerei sowie die Geschichte der Abstraktion sind wichtige Referenzpunkte für die künstlerische Praxis Lecia Dole-Recios. In ihren Arbeiten lotet die Künstlerin die Möglichkeiten einer formalen Sprache und Materialität aus, die die Öffnung der Malerei zu anderen Medien wie der Architektur und Installation thematisieren, oder zu modernen Kompositionsmethoden. Ihre Bildkompositionen sind durch komplexe Schichtungen unterschiedlicher Materialien wie Leinen, Karton, Papier und Farbe gekennzeichnet. In das auf diese Art entstandene Volumen setzt die Künstlerin präzise Schnitte und arbeitet so aus dem Bildträger heraus. Geometrische Formen ordnet sie zu organisch wirkenden Konstellationen und Mustern an, die über den Bildgrund hinaus in den sie umgebenden Raum wirken. In ihrer ersten Ausstellung in Österreich zeigt Lecia Dole-Recio in der Secession eine Auswahl aus ihrer neuen Werkserie. Die Thematisierung einer räumlichen Wahrnehmung von Malerei, die in ihren älteren Arbeiten manifest ist, wird in ihren jüngsten Arbeiten um eine zeitliche Komponente erweitert. Die Künstlerin verwendet hier Reste und Abfallprodukte früherer Arbeitsprozesse - quasi Negativbilder bereits existierender Arbeiten -, die sie in bewährter Manier collagiert und bearbeitet. Sie hebt so nicht nur die Unterscheidung von „wertvollem" Material und Abfall auf, sondern unterstreicht auch die Vielschichtigkeit und Prozesshaftigkeit ihrer Kunst. Unser Dank geht an all jene, die das Ausstellungsprojekt und die Publikation begleitet haben: in erster Linie an Lecia Dole-Recio für die gelungene Zusammenarbeit und das uns entgegengebrachte Vertrauen. The conditions of painting as a medium as well as the history of abstraction are important points of reference for Lecia Dole-Recio's artistic practice. In her works, the artist plumbs the possibilities of a formal language and materials that explore an opening of painting towards other media, such as architecture and installation, or modern methods of compo- sition. Her visual compositions are marked by complex layerings of various materials: canvas, cardboard, paper, and paint. In the volumes created in this way, the artist makes precise cuts and thus works from the visual support. Geometrical shapes are arranged in organic-seeming constellations and patterns that have an affect on the space around them. In this Secession exhibition, her first show in Austria, Lecia Dole-Recio presents a selection from her new series of works. The exploration of a spatial perception of painting that is manifest in her previous oeuvre is expanded in these most recent works by adding a temporal component. The artist here uses the remains and scraps of earlier work processes, negative images, as it were, of already existing works that she collages and treats in her usual manner. In so doing, not only does she suspend the distinction between "valuable" material and waste, but also underscores the variety and processuality of her art.
