"Who do you say that I am?" This was the key question of Jesus' public ministry. He knew that people must recognize who He was before they could make a firm choice to follow Him as one of His disciples. So all through His ministry He did things and spoke words intended to present His credentials as Son of Man and Son of God, the world's only Saviour.
Most people today know little or nothing about Jesus. Even many Christians have much to learn from the Bible as to who Jesus is. True, these know Him personally as Introduction their Saviour through the experience of the new birth. But because they have never thoroughly and systematically studied all four Gospels, they have yet to hear God's full introduction of His Son to the world.
Any study of the full scope of Christ's life must make a comparative analysis of all four Gospels, especially to see the chronological order of events in Jesus' career, and to make full topical studies of aspects of that career. Hence this manual in the Bible self-study series. It goes without saying that the merits of studying each gospel separately, in the form in which God originally gave them to the world, are manifold. If the reader has never accepted Christ as his personal Saviour, it is sincerely hoped that such an experience will be the fruit of this study of Christ's life.
