l^Into the Woods
A^W by himself. The red-brown Welsh corgi puppy ventured through the English countryside, into the heart of the woods in search of adventure. His short legs moved faster and faster as he raced gaily along the paths and bounded through the dense ferns, trying to catch a blackbird in flight.
Then, suddenly—Before he could even yelp, the puppy was rolling over on the ground. He had been so busy chasing the blackbird. Now he was in trouble. A cat hiding in the branches of an oak tree had dropped onto his back. He fought as hard as he could, but he was held down, pinned under sharp claws. The spitting creature's paw reached dangerously close to the puppy's eyes! Just in time he was able to roll away. The little corgi, still trembling all over, retreated a safe distance away. The old gray tomcat sat licking his paw and seemed to forget that the puppy was there at all.
Using the inside of one paw, the puppy brushed oflE his muddy nose. Then, bright-eyed and eager, he set off once more, sniffing and listening near each tree.
For the rest of the day he played hide-and-seek with the birds and squirrels. He chased the wild rabbits, following them right to their burrows. All the different smells and sounds tempted
