PREFACE The books of Moses, in fact the entire Bible, were given to us by inspiration from God and are useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; they straighten us out and help us to do what is right. This book containing the first five sections of the Bible, could just as well have been called "Living Beginnings" for herein is recorded the beginning of time, the origin of earth, of this universe, of man, of sin, of the salvation of man, of the Jewish race, and of God's covenants with His people. The greatest set of laws of all time is herein presented. In Genesis, the first section of this book, we have the beginning—the account of man's creation and his fall. Exodus, the second section, naturally follows Genesis, for in Exodus we begin to see how God is carrying out His purposes. Exodus records the story of Moses, Through him came the law and the tabernacle (the dwelling place for God's visible glory and a picture of the Savior to come). Leviticus, the third section, is known as the book of atonement, for it portrays the Lord Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for our sins. In Leviticus 11, God says, "Be holy, for I am holy." Every action in this section is symbolical, pointing to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
