AN AUTHORITATIVE VERDICT ON LOCASALEN "Since there is little likelihood that any further marked improvement will be achieved in the topicai corticoids, alternative ways and means must be sought by which to enhance the effectiveness of such locally administered therapy. One possible approach is to add salicylic acid to corticoid ointments: it thus becomes easier for the corticosteroid to penetrate the stratum corneum-which invariably undergoes thickening in the presence of eczema-while at the same time the salicylic acid alsó exerts an antiseptic effect on the surface of the skin. This has been confirmed by experience in patients treated with Locasalen (a combination of Locacorten and salicylic acid). Having elicited good or very good therapeutic results in 98% of cases, this preparation takes pride of place among the corticoid ointments." D. Jenny and R.
