open WindowHardy looked otit of the window and saw the man spring into the road, in front of the car. He saw the car jolt to a standstill and the man, only a foot or two away from it, rush towards the driver. He also saw two other men appear from the side of the road, and move towards the car.It all happened so quickly and was so far away that it seemed like watching an incident on a screen. At first, it interested and puzzled but did not worry him. Had he not come here to take a last view of Durban harbour, he might have forgotten all about it.It was a lovely, bright morning, the sun was behind him, and the view was perfect. The road where the car had stopped was the Marine DriveOcean Drive, actually, but he could never get that properly into his mind.He put the binoculars to his eyes.As he did so, the girl at the wheel of the car tried to get out. He saw the terror of her expression. He saw her clenched hand strike one of the men, then the man's fist jolt upwards and she fell back into the car.Hardy gripped the glasses tightly, his whole body rigid. He saw the men climb into the car. One pushed the girl's slumped body aside and took the wheel himself. The car ran forward, then turned left, towards the town.He said: 'Good Lord!' in a strained voice. When he looked at the spot, he could picture the girl's face, and the terror on it. He had seen a girl kidnapped.
