INTRODUCTION The object of this book is to give the basic principles oí Mechanical Draughtsmanship. Experience has proved that the best progress is made by the student who has received a training in the principles of plain and solid geometry; therefore, attention is paid to certain geometrical principles which find application in Drawing Office practice. The Drawing Office is the centre of production, and the apprentice or junior who is not afraid of hard work will find that this office provides the means to study all forms and variations of engineering practice. When the junior draughtsman is working on the board, it must be remembered that this is the most critical period of his training, and any difficulties which may arise in the works must be foreseen, therefore the junior must be able to produce an " Engineering Working Drawing " which gives all the necessary instructions and information in such a form as can be understood by the man in the shop. It is the hope of the author that this book will materially contribute to that good end.
