Installing FoxPro for MS-DOS This chapter outlines the requirements for installing Microsoft® FoxProR for MS-DOS® and explains how to install and start FoxPro. Two versions of FoxPro for MS-DOS are available for you to run - Standard and Extended. The Extended version is a 32-bit product that utilizes the capacity of 386 and 486 microprocessors and uses all available extended memory, which usually means faster execution speed. The Standard version provides FoxPro speed and versatility for systems with memory constraints or 8088/8086 or 286 processors. Use the following guidelines to decide which version is better suited to run in your environment: • To use the Extended version, your computer must have a 386 or better processor and 3 MB of memory. • If your computer has 3 MB or more of memory, using the Extended version will, in most cases, give you better performance. If you want more information about the capacities of the Extended and Standard versions of FoxPro, refer to the System Capacities table in the Tables chapter of the FoxPro Update manual.
