EDITORIALThis is the third issue of MET that I haveedited and by the time you receive itmany of you will be enjoying your summerholidays. So it seems a good time to ask youwhat you think of 'new' MET. Are youenjoying it? Which section do you like best? Are there any sections you don't like at all?Have you got any suggestions for newsections? 'Teacher-centred' and 'interactive'are words I used in my first editorial - if thesewords are truly to apply to MET, we need toknow what you think. As sitting down towrite a letter can seem a bit of a chore, wehave enclosed a brief questionnaire to make iteasy for you to provide us with the feedbackwe need in order to give you the magazineyou want. Do please fill it in and return it.As you will see, there are two new sections inthis issue. The first is Keynote, which, fromnow on, will be the first section of each issueof MET. It will always consist of a substantialarticle, either presenting some backgroundinformation, as here, or discussing acontroversial topic. The subject this time isthe National Curriculum, which a lot ofteachers have asked for information about. And picking up on the topic of thisinformative article are two other articles - onein Kaleidoscope on the National Curriculumseen through the eyes of a classroom teacher, and one in It Made Me Think on ESL in Britishschools. The other new section is A Good Read - aforum for anyone who has read a book that isconnected in some way with teaching or withan aspect of English and that they think otherteachers might enjoy. Those of you who attended any conferencesin the spring will have seen the competitionwe ran to encourage you to write articles forMET. The deadline was the end of May and,at the time of writing this, we are judging theentries. In the next issue we will announce thewinner, and we will also be announcinganother competition - so watch this space. Finally, let me draw your attention to page 51of this issue and Mario Rinvolucri's'invitation'.
