PREFACE
This volume is not a textbook but a report on the results of out teamwork on congenital cardiovascular malformations with cyanosis.
We dedicate it with gratitude to Helen B. Taussig and Alfréd Bla-lock of The Johns Hopkins Hospitál, Baltimore, because most of these investigations are based upon their great advances in this field. Further-more, many of us have had the privilege of studying under their guidance.
We wish further to express our appreciation and thanks to those who have helped us to accomplish our work.
First of all we want to mention Dr. R. Bing, who has encouraged us and followed our progress with great interest. Dr. C. Crafoord has operated upon four of our cases (Nos. 23, 30, 31 and 49). In somé cases Drs. J. Lind and O. Axén performed the angiocardiographic exam-inations at Norrtull's Children's Hospitál, Stockholm, before our own apparatus was set up. Dr. S. Olsson has performed many of the autopsies and he has kindly reexamined many specimens of particular interest. Dr. R. E. Bonham-Carter of London, Dr. J. Davel of Pretoria, South Africa, and Dr. B. Landtman of Helsinki, Finland, have contributed by reading parts of the manuscript before publication, and Mrs. Ingeborg von Rosen and Constance Bruzelius have played a great part in editorial and trans-lation work. Miss Betty Harris, formerly technician at The Johns Hopkins Hospitál, Baltimore, was responsible for gas and air analyses. Mr. G. Wickman designed the diagrams.
Finally we are greatly indebted to S. Karger Co., of Basle, Switzer-land, for publication.
The investigations have been carried out with the aid of grants from the Swedish Medical Research Council, the Hanne and Theodor Mannheimer Fund of Gothenburg, Mr. B. G. Prytz and Mr. I. Philipson of Stockholm.
