On Saturday nights Mrs Catchum went to bed early. Every Sunday morning she went to church, and when she arrived home again her husband was quite normal. In this way they were very happy together. At Scotland Yard, Inspector Catchum kept a diary. Every day, at the end of work, he sat down at his desk and wrote down his day's work. He now had twenty-eight diaries. All the other detectives had computers in their offices, but Inspector Catchum hated computers. He did not even like typewriters. He had very good handwriting.
