Bővebb ismertető
The aim of The Practical Readers is to teach overseas students somé of the simplest trade and practical words in English. Each book of the series is a story, and it is hoped in this way to make the work of learning the new words easy and interesting. Although these books were originally written for students who are learning a special subject, they may be read with profit and pleasure by others; for the words are universally useful. In each book of the series, groups of words connected with various subjects (such as cooking and dressmaking) are taught as new words. An attempt has been made to grade these special words so that the easiest are introduced first, and lead gradually on to a more advanced vocabulary. In Mrs. Marlovfs Money, the third book of the girls* section, it is assumed that the student knows about 1,100 of the commonest English words, as taught and used, for example, in Dr. West's New Method Reader 3. It is alsó assumed that the words introduced into the first two books of the girls' section are known. In this vocabulary a story has been written introducing about 70 further special words, and a list of these is given at the end of the book.
