\_. THE LOST HUM IN the nursery cupboard there was a big humming-top. The toys loved it very much, for often when it spun round and round, and hummed loudly, it would let somé of the smaller toys sit on it and hold tightly to the handlé. Then they had a fine ride, as you can imagine. But one day the humming top didn't hum! It spun round and round, but not a single hum came out of it. It was most strange. "What has happened?" wondered the toys. "I think it must be because Eileen sat on the top yesterday, and bent it," said the golliwog. "It must have spoilt the hum. What a pity!" The top was sad. What was the use of being a humming-top if you couldn't hum ? It sat and moped in the corner, and wouldn't even spin itself to give the small dolls and the Noah's ark animals a ride.
