National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Best Safeguarding Practices [antikvár]

T he Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Herítage and its implementation in HunqaryThis publication introduces the bearer communities and best safeguarding practices of intangible cultural heritage inscribed on the Hungárián National Inventory.The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003. By February 2013, 151 states ratified the Convention becoming states partiesto the principles it contains.Intangible cultural heritage are those oral representations, knowledge, traditions and skills that communities recognize as their cultural heritage. This intangible cultural heritage provides a sense of identity and continuity while it is transmitted from generation to generation and is continually recreated by the bearer communities. The objectives of the Convention are to safeguard these community expressions, to strengthen the identity of bearer communities, to raise awareness regarding the importance of these heritage elements - many of which are on the verge of extinction, and to ensure respect for and mutual appreciation of cultural diversity.Intangible cultural heritage is manifested in among others the following domains:a)oral traditions and expressions, including language as a vehicle of the intangible cultural heritageb)performing artsc)social practices, rituals and festive eventsd)knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universee)traditional craftsmanshipThe Convention defines the role of UNESCO in safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage at international levels. In 2009 three lists were established for which states parties to the Convention could nominate elements for inscription.In that same year the first Hungárián nomination - the Busó end of winter masked tradition- was selected for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In 2012 two further Hungárián nominations were selected for the list - the Matyó cultural heritage and Hungárián falconry.The 2006, XXXVIII Act on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage enabíed ratification of the Convention in Hungary - making her the 39th state to do so. Hungary was elected a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for a period of four years at the first General Assembly of States Parties in 2006. According to the law, implementation of the Convention in Hungary rests with the ministry responsible for cultural heritage.In April 2009 the Ministry for Education and Culture (today Humán Resources Ministry) entrusted the coordination of tasks emanating from state implementation of the Convention to the Hungárián Open Air Museum. The Museum established the
