PREFACE
¦ö
Our manifesto for May's general election campaign was the product of another successful Partnership in Power cycle which started in the spring of 2002 (with the publication of policy consultation documents) and concluded with decisions taken on the final policy documents at last year's conference. Everyone involved in this cycle of Partnership in Power, from local parties and affiliates to members of the National Policy Forum, deserves to be proud of the part they played In developing the party's policy programme for the third term of government.
This National Policy Forum report will form the basis for the policy debates at conference. It contains the five policy documents that will be discussed over the course of the week, sets out the work of the eight policy commissions and includes information on members of the National Policy Forum, as well as listing the party organisations that have made submissions to Partnership in Power since last August.
Policy documents
Conference this year will discuss five policy documents:
- Britain In an Interdependent World
- Building Prosperity for All
- Creating Sustainable Communities
- Improving Health and Education
¦ Reconnecting People and Politics
These documents update on progress since the final policy documents were agreed at last year's conference and incorporate the policies set out in our manifesto. They look at how we are making progress delivering on our aims, our values and those policies outlined last year. And as we embark on an histonc third term, the documents look at the key challenges facing the party and Britain in the coming Parliament.
Policy commission annual reports
The work of the eight policy commissions over the last year is also Included in this report and will be taken as part of the debate on the relevant policy document.
In conclusion, we would like to thank all party members, local parties, trade unions and socialist societies who organised local policy forums, made policy submissions, or took part in the policy discussions with government ministers. Everyone involved contributed to making Partnership in Power a huge success once again.
The challenge we face now is to build on this success and for the party to work together with government to implement our manifesto commitments, as well as develop future policies which will form the basis of our manifesto for the next general election.
