Piazza della Republica. - The ancient Baths of Diocletian were once on this site. More commonly known as the Piazza dell'Esedra, this square was designed in 1885, by G. Koch. Two porticoed palaces on the perimeter of the square follow the contours of the central exedra (lecture-hall) of the Baths. The Fountain of the Naiads is by Guerrieri. Midst the scintillating play of light and water, are a group of bronzes by Mario Rutelli (1901). In the distance are visible the colossal ruins of the Baths of Diocletian.
