Bővebb ismertető
WE ARE GRATEFUL for the insightful contributions to this catalogue of a few gifted writers. Sarah Faunce, author of the forthcoming critical catalogue of Gustave Courbet, discusses some significant additions to the known works of the artist while dispelling notions of collaboration in some of these important paintings. Leon Wieseltier's essay offers an interpretation of Manet's mysterious early work, La Femme aux Chiens. Michel Schulman examines one of Rousseau's most important works to appear on the market in recent memory, the Salon exhibited Le Chene de roches. Lee Johnson kindly assisted with the entry on the Delacroix, Brigand Seated at the Entrance to a Cave, a painting lost from view for over fifty years. Paula Rand Hornbostel assisted with the production of the catalogue and contributed the entry on the Manet. More vital assistance was provided by Martin Dieterle, Ivan Phillips, Leigh Morse, Jeanette Sisk and Wheelock Whitney.
