Non Campus Mentis [antikvár]

INTRODUCTION History is a work in progress. Every generation has to make sense of the past for itself. The facts may stay the same, but the work of interpretation goes on and on. This brief text glimpses at the cutting edge of this process. Culled from term papers and bluebook exams written by college and university students, it is an authentic voice of youth. Their work represents a refreshing and daring reappraisal of how we came to be who we are. I have taken the liberty of weaving their sentences into a more-or-less coherent fabric, but the words belong to them. The spelling may be avant-garde and the logic experimentál, but no one can fault these young scholars for lack of creativity. At its best, Non Campus Mentis (a typical student mishearing of non compos mentis) illustrates the ingenious and often comic ways we all attempt to make sense of information we can't understand because we have no context or frame of reference for it.
