Dear NFT User,
So the world didn't end in 2011 but according to the doonn-mongers it may still happen in 2012. "So what!" say we, "that's not going to stop us quaffing, boogying, spending, and caffeinating ourselves silly in the meantime."
As we wade through the recession, it seems a Royal Wedding can cheer up the most miserable bastard: the glorious sight of spitfires and hurricanes flying over the capital, was enough to make one feel proud to be British. A style icon was born when Kate Middleton wore Alexander McQueen up the aisle and even if she was queen bee for the day, the real Queen will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year. If nothing else, you can say, "Thank you ma'am for the extra day off."
Oh, and the Olympics, yes the Olympics will be taking place in London this year. As one of the world's megacities perched on a tiny island in the Atlantic we struggle to fit us all in as it is but, what the heck, the more the merrier. It remains to be seen whether structures like Zaha Hadid's Aquatics Centre will benefit the borough of Hackney in the aftermath. Even our illustrious mayor Boris couldn't get tickets for the Games, so who knows, we may just have to rent our place out to you and disappear for the summer.
Talking about architecture, the Shard is slowly creeping up against the London skyline, a behemoth that will be the tallest building in Europe once complete, and draw attention to that area known as "Sarf of the river" which so often gets overshadowed by well. North of the river. Hopefully once it's finished we will all be zooming around on the new Routemaster buses as well, confirming London as a centre of Design excellence. Who says the Brits have no style?
So here it is, a guide to the most delicious, intoxicating, awe-inspiring, groovy destinations in the city. Or just places that we like-the places that become part of our everyday as Londoners and which we've chosen to share with you.
