editori a I Stepping Down First we thought it would be for one, then we hardly noticed we were into the second, and now we are stepping down after the third year of editing novELTy, our favourite journal. We hope it's been not only ours. Looking back we realize how many people have supported our work: British Council staff, IATEFL Hungary members, colleagues at Janus Pannonius University and other institutions; all authors who have allowed us to parent their dearest offspring; referees who have given us Professional assistance in establishing and maintaining standards; readers who have sent us feedback But it is time for others to take over: new editors are stepping up as we are stepping down. We wish them readers' and writers' continued dedication. Before you receive the next issue, you should direct any correspondence regarding future submissions and information to the British Council at this address: Novelty British Council Budapest Benczúr u. 26. 1068 So what do we say good-bye with? Simple: with the best issue ever. Again a double number, the December edition, all 136 pages of it, is chock full of relevant research, revealing reviews and reflective reports. A glancé at the contents page will confirm this. The articles focus on one of three main issues: teachers' perceptions of their careers; testing reform and practice; and classroom tasks. In their ethnographic study on Hungárián teachers, Elekes Katalin, Magnuczné Godó Ágnes, Szabó Péter and Tóth Ildikó discuss how nine teachers of English evaluate their careers.
