Turn the Lights On!Walking into a dark room can be hazardous to your health. Unless you find a Ught switch and flick it on, you might bang your shins on a coffee table, trip over a footstool, w^alk into a v^all, or crash into a china cabinet. However, there's a different kind of darkness each of us needs to beware of. It's spiritual darkness; it's growing deeper and spreading farther; and it inflicts greater damage than the darkness you find in an urdit room. Satan, the prince of darkness, is blanketing your conununity and commimities Üke yours vdth the thick, inky darkness of false rehgion. His demons propogate anti-Christian thought, spew forth corrupt doctrine, and fuel immoral behavior.What can you and other Christians do to protect yourselves and others? Turn on the lights! Let the light of Scripture flood your mind. Study it diligently, and obey it wholeheartedly. Shed beams of the Ught-and-life-giving gospel into society. Let people know how to escape from the power of darkness and enter the kingdom of God's dear Son (Col. 1:13). Finally, live the Truth. Paul urged the Philippian believers to conduct themselves in such a way that they would be "blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as Hghts in the world, holding forth the word of life" (Phil. 2:15, 16).The following lessons are intended to help you detect and dispel the darkness you encounter in your conflict in the world.
