Bővebb ismertető
We are proud to present you with a new Haggadah
from a unique series of Haggadot published especially
for BHI (Bank Hapoalim International).
Each year a special Haggadah is dedicated to one of the
Jewish communities in the Diaspora. This year's
Haggadah is dedicated to the ancient Jewry of India.
India was known to the inhabitants of the Land of
Israel in ancient times and is mentioned in the Bible in
the Book of Esther. Although the exact date of the first
Jewish settlement in India is not certain, there are
stories going back 3,000 years to
the days of King Solomon.
Of the special characteristics of Indian Jewry (detailed
in the introduction), most worthy of note is the
tolerance they experienced from the general population
in India. In contrast with Jews in other countries, they
did not suffer persecution. Despite their remarkable
integration into the local fabric of life they preserved
their unique Jewish traditions far from
the central streams of Judaism.
Chag Sameach,
