POREWORD Nowadays it is a natural desire of ail experts engaged in the fieid of sports that biologists further by any possible means the elaboration of well-founded training methods and through this better sports results. Within the frame of this endeavour versatile biological experiments are needed involving various age groups. Biologists study children with high activity demand, those v/ishing to participate in sports, those youths who are seemingly suitable for such persuits just as weil as those sportsmen performing the highest results. We investigate their growth, body development, maturity, the development of their physical characteristics, proportional changes and so on. The research work of István Parmosi was always made with these in mind. In several occasions he discussed his problems, the applied*investigational methods and the pricinples of processing data with the Anthropological Department of the Eötvös Loránd University. He examined a special athletic form of movement: the jumps, in correlation with the variation of physique manifested auring growth, His results, no doubt, will be stimulating for all those engaged in any of the above problems. This is why it is my pleasure to publish this book in the series Humanbiologia Budapestiensis. The appearance of this work was further supportea by the Hungárián High School for Physical Culture. I launch Parmosi's book with the wish that it be a link between the basic researches of humán biology and the application of their results in sports - since these links look back on several decades of history in Hungary. 0.
