PrefacePositioning CINDI to Meet the Challenges has been prepared following a series ofconsultations undertaken by the Policy Development Working Group in seven CINDImember countries and subsequent discussion of the Group's findings at the Annual CINDIProgramme Directors Meeting in May, 1992. The Working Group met with CINDIprogramme representatives and officials from a wide range of national and regionalgovernment and non-governmental organizations, reviewed the recommendations andproceedings of a number of workshops and reports on CINDI site visits and helddiscussions with representatives of the WHO/EURO Office in Copenhagen.Positioning CINDI to Meet the Challenges provides a framework for identifyingareas of joint action by CINDI member countries. It should be of assistance to individualCINDI programmes and countries in defining their own strategies and activities. The Working Group appreciates the cooperation and spirit of collaboration which itencountered throughout the consultation process. On behalf of the Working Group, I thankthe numerous individuals and agencies who participated in the consultations.Sylvie Stachenko, M.D., M.Sc., F.C.FP.Chair, Working Group on Policy DevelopmentCopenhagen, December 1992
