Students and teachers from higher education institutions involved in the TEMPUS ICER Project came together again to atteud the Secoiid International Pli. D. Seminar in Himgary. After üie ve 17 successful first one organized by the Department of Ecology of the Lajos Kossuth University, Debrecen, 1996, tíiis is the second occasion in which Ph. D. candidates from Hungárián and foreign universities are able to present their paper, explain their vvork, discuss their results, and deepen their knowledge conceniing their special water management and environmeutal studies. It gives an excellent possibility alsó for somé exchange of educational and/or researcli experiences and opinions among students and their supervisors as well as among teachers and teachers. In tliat respect tíie Seminar fulfill completely the aim and intention of the TEMPUS ICER Project, which is for the International Cooperation for Educational Restructuring.
The subtitle of the Seminar is investigations of environmeutal impacts on river bcisin and/or floodplain management, which gives the possibility to gather studies from a wide field of researcli work. The Ph. D. Students of many institutions participating in the TEMPUS ICER Project took the oppoitunity and sent their paper proposals to the organizers, among vvhicli the best liave been selected by the Organizing Committee. The accepted papers give a very interesting and multicolored picture about the study tliemes related to the Seminar topics, and show an active and invention ricli researcli work conducted by their Autliors and supervisors in the partner universities.
The organizers of the Seminar are very mucii pleased and appreciated to be the liost of this interesting and expectedly valuable meeting. We do liope the intemational Seminar will be a direct lielp to the Ph. D. students in their work, it will be a good foinm for knowledge exchange and scientific negotiations, and it offer a good place to build and improve petsonal and professional relationships. The full text of the papers presented in the section sessions will be published iu the proceedings of the Seminar, edited after the meeting.
