Bővebb ismertető
The 4th International Congress of Nephrology was held in Stockholm, June 22-27, 1969, attended by approximately 1,900 scientists from 42 countries. Already the first International Congress of Nephrology in Evian in 1960 was a success. When oífered to arrange the Congress in Sweden, we were aware of our responsibility and of possible comparisons with the successful congresses in Evian, Prague (1963) and Washington (1966). On the other hand, the task was attractive. For the last few years, the field of Nephrology has been growing rapidly in every respect. It was easy to find essential topics as well as brilliant scientists prepared to present their knowledge and experience to the members of the Congress. At the Congress in Stockholm, the scientific programme could comprise only one generál session, 18 symposia and 385 free communications. An additional 500 abstracts 'read by title' were pubiished in the abstract books presented to the members of the Congress. Thus, many excellent papers could not be presented. The abstract books represent a valuable catalogue of research in the field of Nephrology. In 'Doctor's Dilemma', George Bernhard Shaw wrote that a medical discovery is of very little value if it is not made at least every 50th year. When congresses in a specialized field are held every third year, it cannot be avoided that somé information is repeated. However, originál news and further development of established knowledge retain their value and interest. The arrangement of papers in the Proceedings does not follow the same sequence as in the programme of the Congress. Volume 1 comprises mainly morphological and physiological aspects of Nephrology.
