-3- Chalrman; Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Colleagues, I welcome friendly all of the particlpiants of this Round Table Conference organized by the Hungarian Chemical Society. It is a favourite task for me, first of all, to report that the President of the Analytical Section of the Hungarian Chemical Society wishes to welcome the participiants of the Round Table Conference. Professor Pungor; Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, the protection of the mankind of the surrounding dangers was every time highly appreciated. The kind of the danger changed from period to period in the history of the mankind. Earlier the nature with the animals and the various diseases ment them, later on the nature lost its role in this respect, and appeared the dangers of the wars etc. In the modern times the problem of the environment was added to them and we have to protect now our air, water and soil. This is a big job of the analytical chemistry, and analytical chemists, of course, to supervise the conditions of our life. An old problem of the human being is the use of the drugs, but in our age it has got a special rank because of its extended usage all over the world. The special danger appeared so that the chemical research has found not only new drug products but also the way of the preparation in mass. To avoid this danger it is the duty of the drug-analyst to find out the appropriate methods for measuring the drugs. The analytical chemistry was developed in a very high extent during the last decades. We had till now two revolutionary periods in this subject, at the end of the forties and at the beginning of the fifties the instrumental analytical
