PREFACE The Athens meeting of the Development Problems Working Group of the European Association of National Productivity Centres was the continuation of the Romé meeting in 1972 where the Group first came into being. The Athens meeting had as a basic aim to discuss the subject of productivity measurement and the use made of the results, with particular reference to the firm leveL Within this framework, an opportunity was given to present somé supplementary data, not directly connected to the main subject, a characteristic example of such activity being the presentation made of the long rangé development plan of Greece. As this 15-year development plan sets the targest for the Greek economy, it was been considered opportune to give the participants of the meeting a generál picture of it. The plan, which was of necessity presented in a concise form, has been worked out under the responsibility and supervision of the Centre of Planning and Economic Research of Greece, with the contribution of a large number of scientists. It constitutes a guide to the various factors of the economy on scheduling their activities in the near and distant future. The Centre of Planning and Economic Research is the substantial instrument of the basic long rangé study of the Greek economy, whereas the Greek Productivity Centre deals with studies and research of a more concrete character. Being closely interrelated the two centres supplement each other's work. It was thought useful to publish the papers of the topics developed at the meeting, as weil as somé of those which, owing to the absence of their writers, were not discussed, but present a generál interest. We believe that the publication on hand\ which comes out as a commemorative edition on this occasion, will be of help in the field of productivity measurement. D. MAVROCORDATOS Director General Greek Productivity Centre
