Introduction
This catalogue appears quarterly in the eleven official languages of the European Community. It comprises the monographs published by the institutions of the Community during the reference period as well as current periodicals.' Presentation of the catalogue Each publication appears in only one language. If the English version does not exist, another language version will be included, in the following order of preference:
French Portuguese Finnish
German Dutch Greek
Italian Danish others
Spanish Swedish
Where other language versions also exist, cross-references are provided by means of a code, in the following form:

IT the Italian version is described in the Italian catalogue

The catalogue is divided into five parts, as follows:
1. The Systematic catalogue: Provides a subject classification of the titles, according to the list on p. 8. Under each heading, priced publications and publications that are free of charge are separated.
For each monograph or collection, the full bibliographic entry appears only once and is preceded by a sequential entry number. If the publication appears under another heading, only the title and the principal sequence number are indicated.
In the case of publications in numerous volumes (collection), the first entry is the collection, followed by each volume. If one of the volumes does not exist in the language of the corresponding collection, another language version will appear, in the order of preference and within square brackets [ ].
For the periodicals, only the title and entry number of the periodical index appear.
2. Periodicals: Comprises the bibliographic entry of the periodical, preceded by a sequential entry number.
3. The Subject index: Comprises the contents of each publication, with the exception of EUR documents, according to keywords (descriptors) contained in the Eu-rovoc thesaurus. ^
4. The Index of titles.
5. The index: Alphabetical list of series with corresponding monographs.
The indices are cumulative throughout the year and give, as a reference, the quarterly catalogue (1, 2 or 3) in which the publication appears, followed by the entry number of the relevant catalogue.
Abbreviations and conventional signs
The text languages of publications are indicated by the following abbreviations:

A sequence of such symbols separated by diagonal strokes denotes a publication in which different language versions of the same text appear under one cover.
The prices given are without VAT and are expressed in ecu. Approximate values: ECU 1 = GBP 0.71; lEP 0.73; USD 1.17; BEF 40.29.
