Introduction Radio is a médium we use constantly, although we may not even be aware of it. We may use it as background entertainment while we do something else, or we may become totally involved as we listen to our favorité programs. Most of us depend on the radio for news of what is happening locally and around the world. The major reason for radio's widespread appeal is that it is portable. Small, lightweight radios powered by batteries can be carried around easily, so we can listen to radio wherever we go. Radio programs are relatively simple to produce. Broadcasting equipment is not very complicated to operate, so production skills are easily learned. Nor is radio broadcasting hampered by high production costs.
