Bővebb ismertető
Duke was a wild Canada gander who once lived at Little Lakes, the author's home in Wisconsin. He had come down with a flock that settled among the trout ponds. There he found a mate, but Duchess was pinioned and could not fly. On bright, clear days when the migrant flocks lifted, Duke longed to follow them down the sky. Many times he was tempted, and many times he left, but he always came back. For Canadas are monogamous. When a dog killed Duchess, the stricken Duke, with his goslings, was taken to a national wildlife refuge and turnéd loose among tens of thousands of his own kind. This much is true. How Duke led his young to Heron Marsh, how he faced man's guns and nature's predators and survived storms and the threat of starvation, is a thrilling story that will set you to thinking of the ways of men as well as geese. Mel Ellis, hunter turnéd conservationist, has much to say about both.
