Bővebb ismertető
One day, near the turn of the Century, several survivors from an errant whaleboat staggered onto a bleak, icy shore in the very heart of the Eskimo world. Frozen, starved, very near to death, three of the men were rescued by Eskimo hunters. Avinga, crippled son of the chief and narrator of the tale, relates the curiosity of his people as the strangers enter the life of the community. Gradually, as the brief spring and summer pass, they are fully accepted, especially by the young girls. But during the long, cruel Arctic winter, mischief arises, customs clash and passions ilare. The aftermath is violent, the conclusion intensely moving.
The White Datvn blends adventure and romance with authenticity and profound meaning.
