Introduction
This is the eighth cardiovascular conference to be held at Snowmass, the purpose of which was to evaluate the results of new methodology in Cardiology, including the areas of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease. Emphasis is placed on noninvasive as well as invasive technology. In view of the rapidly changing knowledge in these areas, the need for constant review of the medical and surgical care is apparent.
The help and advice of Dr. Bruce C. Paton and Dr. James S. Forrester in developing this conference is gratefully acknowledged. I am particularly indebted to Ms. Kym Westenberg for help in the preparation of the conference and editing of the manuscripts, as well as to Mrs. Cynthia Vogel for her assistance; to Mrs. Jean Robinson for assistance in coordination of this conference and to Miss Mary Anne McInerny and Dr. Borys Sukawicz of the American College of Cardiology who helped to make this meeting possible.
Appreciation is expressed to Travenol Laboratories Inc. (Morton Grove, 111.), Shiley Laboratories Inc., Ayerst Laboratories and Hancock Laboratories Inc. for educational grants which supported in part this program.
John H. K. Vogel, MD
