PREFACE
Me
\ exico is a country of architects. We Mexicans ore builders; we are oil architects. I am not an exception. Although I do not come from an artistic family, I have always lived surrounded by architecture; I spent my childhood visiting villages, haciendas, convents, and churches. This world of Mexican spaces filled my life in such a natural way that light, walls, color, mystery, and water, with all fheir beauty, became part of me. I am not an exception, That is the way we Mexicans are.
I don't remember when I decided to become an architect; it just happened, and when I communicated it to my parents I received their total support.
The romanticism, beauty, richness, light, and color of Mexico—but above all, its people—have become an obsession for me.
Mv
\y father taught me spirituality, social conscience, and a deep love for Mexico; and José Villagrán, the love for architecture. From Luis Barragán, Chucho Reyes, and Pedro Coronel, I learned about color and beauty.
These influences, together with my passion and romanticism, have become the pillars of my professional life.
The contrasting realities, humanism, and magic of Mexico helped me realize that architecture must be human and at the service of society and people.
