Bővebb ismertető
I was born in the year 1632, in the city of York. I was called Robinson Kreutznaer but we are now called Crusoe.
I had two elder brothers: one was killed near Dunkirk fighting against the Spaniards, and what became of my second brother I never knew.
Not bred to any trade, my head was fiiled early with rambling thoughts. My father intended that I should adopt the law. But I was satisfied with nothing but going to sea, and all the commands of my father could not stifle my longing for this life.
My father pressed me earnestly not to play the young man. He said that there was no need to seek my bread; he would do well for me, and do his best to enter me into the station of life he had been recommending.
He mentioned my elder brother, to whom he had given the same earnest instruction and advice; my brother had disregarded it all, and so went away and was killed. The tears ran down my father's face when he mentioned my brother.
I was, naturally, deeply affected, and resolved not to think of going abroad again. But, alas, after a few days it all wore off; and a few weeks later I decided to run away.
I told my mother, however, that my thoughts were so bent on seeing the world that I should never settle to anything; and I said that my father had better give me his consent than allow me to leave without it. My mother flew into a rage at all this, saying they would never give their consent.
