Introduction This workbook is intended for use in conjunction with Say what you mean in English-Book 1, and provides students and their teachers with written exereises as reinforcement ofthe spoken material presented in that book. There are 3 exereises on each ofthe 25 units in the book, and each exercise has 10 sentences. This gives a totál of 75 exereises, or 750 items. The three exereises on each unit broadly follow the same pattern throughout: Exercise A is a simple transeription exercise. The material to be copied is easily found on the pages indicated, and should be copied as it stands. Exercise B asks for answers to questions, based on the material in the unit, but occasionally requiring the student to supply somé vocabulary not given. Exercise C is an invention exercise, and requires the student to apply what he has learnt in new or extended situations. Exercise A may be considered easy for somé students, but it provides useful reinforcement if done shortly after working with the material orally; it is a particularly valuable exercise for students not familiar with the European alphabet. There is somé overlap between Exercise A and Exercise B. This Workbook refleetsthe view that students oughtto get exereises RIGHT, and that they ought not to be attempting them unless there is a strong likelihood that they will do so.
