your Letterfrom the EditorI can imagine you all seated at your desks once more, looking brown and well and ready to learn a tremerudous lot! Holidays would not be half so mucii fun if we did no work between them.England has had a wonderful summerfine and hot. Holiday re-sorls have been crowded with visitors; there have been fétes and gar-den parties, sports and swimming galas. But life has not been all play. Many boys and girls have been helping the farmers with their hay-making or fruit picking. Somé of London s working ladsmembers of Boys' Clubs, have been to school at a large country house in Bucking-hamshire. They were given tests to discover whether they were good at organising. As a result, twelve boys have been chosen as hosts to somé forty members of youth organisations who are going to spend the first two weeks of September in England. They are coming from the USA, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Francé, Germanyand Scotland, and wül live together, exchanging ideas and suggestions.England has been invaded by the vikings again! This time it was a peaceful invasion, planned by the Tourist Association of Denmark. On the 28th July, fifteen hundred years after the vikings Hengist \and Horsa tvent ashore on the South Coast of England, fifty bearded Danes landed on the same coast. They were dressed in viking costumes of rich colours with wide cloaks, and carried swords, shields, spears and small axes. They had rowed their heavy boát across the North Sea, living in every way as the vikings of olcl. The rowers even offered to eat the same things during the trip as the old vikings had done! That is to say they were willing to eat only oysters and raw onions. But it was decided that this was going a little too far. There was an official ceremony at Broadstairs to welcome them, and they handed somé beautiful presents of old Danisli silver to the Mayor. Then they visiteű other seaside towns on the coast of Kent and finally sailed up the Thames to the British fleet-station in Chatham.I have founcl that although readers often know quite a lot about London, very few know anything at all about England's other big towns and cities. I have therefore decided to teli you about somé of them from time to time. I have chosen Nottinghaon first (see pages 6 & 7) because it has recently held a big festival, and was visited by Princess Elizabeth. The story of "CarcajoiC comes to an end very shortly, and although somé of you may be sorry to part with Two Gray Hills and, Mister Jim, others wül be glad to know that a play, for which they have so often asked, wül folloio. There may be somé readers who have seen the film "Lassie-Come-Home" who were not readers of "School PosV when this story ran in Ü as a ser:al. Others may have lost their copies and would like to reád it again. A small quantity of these numbers are stül available and if any reader would like to have them, they shoulé ask their bookseller to obtain them, or write direct to the firm of Flórian Mayer, Wien I, Rabensteig 3.With best wishes,lu. BLUrrIII. FormIligher Elementary School, Berndorf-Stadt"Your "Scshool Post" is very interesting and we read every story with much pleasure. We especial-ly enjoyed the story, "Lassie-Come-Home" and hope to see the film one day. In the last number we found a song and we would like more in future numbers because we like learning them."Our school in Berndorf is very nice. We think it the most beautiful school in the whole world. Each room is in a different style. Our class room is gothic. We are thirty-eigiht girls and we like learning English very much."A grown-up reader writes:"Let me thank you for all the many lovely articles on most interesting subjects. They are a pleasure to my pupils who are very fond of them. I especially appreciate your beginnjer's page it is rather useful to them."Peter Richter Vienna."Thank you for your nice magaziné. It must be rather a diffi-cult task for one man to prepare and desienti a whole pnper."Somé time ago there wrere very interestincr geoírrpphical articles in your paper, with beautiful picfu-res. Could you not continue these? Alsó there have been somé interesting techmcal articles, as for instance articles about electricity or the V2. Historical reviews are alsó very fine. I always eniov the serial very much and I think it a fine idea to include extracts from English literature in the supplement, but I would be crlad if there were fewer tales for little children and alsó I do not like songs very much>."
