As this book is only a continuation of the series begun in the first book, the author does nőt think it necessary to repeat here a description of his method of teaching.
The first book contains the most necessary voca-bulary for simple conversations, especially such as is useful in travelling; few abstract expressions and only elementary grammatical construdions are admitted.
In the second book the vocabulary is gradually enriched with abstract words and idiomatic expressions, which are generaíly employed so as to render their signification evideni through context, or in such a manner that the teacher will find in the preceding íessons the words necessary for expiu ining the new phrases.
Even in the exercises new words are frequeritiy intro-duced. It is therefore always necessary to do the exercises oraíly in the íessons (before having them written out at hoime) in order to have an opportunity for explanations and additional drill.
The Íessons are to be given in the same way as those at the end of the first book; L e.y the teacher reads one or several sentences, makes the student alsó read thcm, corrccts his pronunciation, asks him questions like
