Foreword This book contains reading passages, case studies, and other reading material that are useful to complement a basic managerial English language course. Each passage is specifically designed to improve managerial and business English vocabulary, stimulate tliinking in the given topic, and shed light on deeper connections and coherence. The first ten case studies will help identify various types of problems managers have to face in different functional areas of a company. The key words are boldfaced. Following each case study, there are questions listed in connection with the given case. Students are to reveal the relevance of these questions to the problem identified in tlie case and adapt their practical knowledge when answereing tliese questions. A number of various exercises can also be found after each case. The second part of the book consists of five articles. Here students will find quatations and statements after the articles that they will have to paraphrase and explain. Relevant questions and the key words and expressions are listed at the end of each article. A number of various grammar exercises can also be found after the articles. In the third part of the book you can find eight files on the recent development patterns of the global economy. All of these files are centered around the idea of globalization. Read the files one by one, but strictly in order from No 1 to No 8! The vocabulary and the notes of a given file always refer to the previous files, this is why it is essential to keep the order. One file constitutes a separate unit. Each file brings up a different aspect of globalization. Discuss the topics and have the students give their own opinion! The fourth part of this book features two longer cases. These are to be dealt with over a longer period of time, preferrably a couple of months, always advancing slowly.
