The object of this book is to bring home to the reader the need to be able to defend oneself effectively in this day and age against any type of unwanted attack, either outside or inside the home.
We live in a society where attacks on women and girls are all too common. A considerable ' number of those women and girls who have
experienced assaults, muggings and beatings of various kinds would undoubtedly have been t better off today had they been capable of
defending themselves.
Training in the art of self-defence often begins • I in schools and colleges and no one is more aware
'i of this than Pat Butler, whom I have known since
1961 and with whom I have worked on J numerous occasions. Pat, having coached
women and girls in the art of self-defence in y many such colleges, has a vast experience of this
I particular section of the martial arts.
1; There are many books on judo and self-
defence, and Pat Butler's books are amongst the best I have read. This particular one is interestingly different: case histories portray attacks on women, which to my knowledge have never been so clearly outlined. The author has made his own comments after each case history and readers will find these of great value.
