Bővebb ismertető
This book is specifically intended for students studying for Pitman Qualifications' Spoken English for Speakers of Other Languages (SESOL) examinations, although it may also be of help to other students who want to improve their general speaking skills in English.
Pitman Qualifications' SESOL examinations are proficiency exams, designed to provide an external measure of the real-life speaking skills of all learners of English, independent of age, time, and language learning methods. The assessment is valid and reliable, offered by an internationally recognised awarding body with more than 150 years of experience.
SESOL examinations are stand-alone spoken examinations but can be complemented by the written ESOL examination.
Pitman Qualifications' SESOL examinations are comprehensive, graded exams available at five levels:
Basic
Elementary Intermediate Higher Intermediate Advanced
This book covers all levels, for two reasons. One reason is that the format and focus, as well the assessment criteria of the examinations are the same at all levels, therefore, the way students might want to prepare for the examinations should be basically the same. Another reason is that despite the separate examinations levels, one's speaking skills and proficiency in general spoken English cannot be, and should not be, broken up in five different chunks, presented in five separate books. At Advanced level, for instance, students are supposed to be fully aware of the expectations at all lower levels of the examination.
Although clear dividing lines between levels do not exist, students preparing for a lower examinations level will find it very easy to see where the preparatory material for the next level begins, because the intended levels are clearly marked. The graded exercises are meant to be rough guides only, based on the authors' subjective assessment of levels.
The book is intended to be used either as a coursebook or as a reference book for individual study. In an ideal case, students should be working in pairs or groups with the guidance of an experienced teacher. Most of the tasks are designed for collaborative learning.
The authors have been preparing students for Pitman Qualifications SESOL examinations and working as SESOL interlocutors in Hungary for many years. Currently they are both employed by Pitman Qualifications and City & Guilds in the Eastern Europe Branch Office of the awarding body.
