We live in an exceptional age. Technology has turned the world into a village, yet a nuclear cloud threatens to bloom mushroom-like over our heads. Political events quicken their pace. Doomsday prophets, as they have always done, predict the end of the age. Yet never has an age provided more grounds for their threats. After all, the world has to end sometime. Why not soon?
There are signs that the Church might be getting ready for the end times. New powers are poured out on her. New judgment threatens. Hidden evils are coming to light. Sins long secret are made naked before the public. There is also a much greater awareness of God's power to deliver, a new turning to God from sin.
Years ago I used to insist that there were worse sins than sexual sins. And so there are. It is what sexual sins do to you that makes them bad. They lead to lies. Lies you tell others. Worse still, lies you tell yourself until you believe those lies. Then is born pride—the worse sin of all—the sin that makes Satan satanic.
The most terrible sexual sins are those sins we commit against children and young people. They, too, are coming to light. Soon it will no longer be possible to hide them. As prophetic powers are restored to the church, shame and deceit will have no corner to skulk in.
In my role as a psychiatrist I have known about these things and their appalling extent among Christians. I have tried to cry out, but few people would listen. "You are just like all the psychiatrists—hung up on sex!" they told me. On the contrary, I was concerned with exploiters and their victims. Molesters and their quarries represent Satan's triumphs. I knew that a grieving God was waiting to cleanse His church from the plunderings of Satan. The time for God to do so has now come.
