PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITIONSince the second edition of this book there have been some notable changes in the British shooting scene. In particular clay pigeon shooting has continued to grow in popularity, with increasing specialisation in relation to game shooting. I have therefore taken advantage of the publishers' readiness to double the size of the book to go more fully into several aspects of guns and ammunition in which trap and skeet shooters are especially interested. At the same time I have endeavoured to provide the enquiring game shooter with more information conducing to a better understanding of his weapon in relation to himself, leading, I hope, to better performance in the field. Lastly, I have tried to provide more for those enthusiasts who revel in guns for their own sake.I gratefully acknowledge thé valuable information and comments I have received from I. M. Crudgington, C. D. Cradock and Roger Barlow, who also supplied several illustrations for this edition.Once again I have to express my appreciation of the indulgence I have enjoyed at the hands of the proprietors, editors and readers of the Shooting Times, and the generous and indispensable help I have had from Joan Chfford in preparing this edition for publication.
