Sorcerer's Apprentice is a factual account of my own experiences with Carlos Castaneda. However, I have chosen to use pseudonyms for all but six of the people who are mentioned in the book, and I have changed the details of their appearance and background.
Readers should bear in mind that only six individuals are identified by their first names and other particulars. All of these individuals are public figures who pubHshed their own books, granted interviews to the media, delivered public lectures, and/or made other public appearances. Five of the individuals who are identified by their real names and descriptions are listed in "A Guide to the Cast of Major Characters," which appears on page 405 of this book.
Carlos Castaneda and the men and women who joined him in writing and speaking about his teachings sought to attract followers from among the many miUions of readers of Carlos' best-selling books. By doing so, they actively sought—and achieved—widespread public attention across the United States and elsewhere around the world, and their befiefs and practices became a matter of public controversy and debate.
This is my contribution to that debate.
