This album is devoted to articles of jewelry created in recent years by artists and craftsmen in all the constituent Republics of the Soviet Union. The album, though, does not claim to give a full picture of the development of the modern Soviet jewelry art. In particular it omits the works produced by artists at the enterprises of the Central Jewelry Board "Soyuzyuvelirprom" as well as those of the local industries. Mainly represented are pieces of jewelry—the result of individual creative endeavour, that had been displayed at art exhibitions in the Soviet Union and abroad, were made in creative endeavour groups organized by the USSR Union of Artists at Palanga, as well as at the studios of individual artists and at the enterprises maintained by the Art Foundation of the USSR. Also shown are the pieces of jewelry from the Managing Committee for Exhibitions of the USSR Union of Artists and kept in museum collections. Mainly these are ornaments made from semi-precious stones. Here is an attempt by the compilers to present in a single album the most interesting jewelry objects displayed at various exhibitions, to acquaint the reader with the national diversity of the Soviet art of jewelry as a whole.
