INTRODUCTION
This book has been designed to help all learners of Spanish to get to grips with the grammar of the language, whatever stage you are at in learning Spanish. For beginners, the book provides a dear introduction to all the basic rules and structures, and more advanced learners will find it an invaluable guide for reference and revision. For ease of use, each part of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives etc) has been treated separately (see the list of contents on the next page). Wherever a grammatical term might be unfamiliar it has been explained or illustrated at the appropriate point in the text. A special feature of this book is the clear demarcation of grammatical points, each treated on a left-hand page, and illustrated by examples in up-to-date Spanish on the opposite right-hand page. The eye is guided instantly to the appropriate example(s) by a system of bracketed numbers e.g, (—1), (—2) etc, corresponding to an example number on the facing page.
Special attention has been paid throughout to areas in which Spanish and English usage differ, thus helping the user to avoid the mistake of trying to translate English structures by identical structures in Spanish.
The tables of irregular verbs complement the extensive treatment of regular verbs in the grammar section of the book. In them 80 major irregular verbs are conjugated in their simple tenses so you can see where they differ from regular verbs. In addition, the verb index, in which all verbs are cross-referred to the appropriate conjugation model, enables you to check how over 2,800 Spanish verbs are conjugated.
A comprehensive index, containing key words in both Spanish and English, as well as subject references, completes the grammar.
