You are reading the revised, second edition of the "Guide to Hungarian Spas". It is published by the Hungarian Spa Association, whose aim is to inform foreigners about spas and balneothereaputic opportunities in Hungary.
Hungary is rich in thermal waters and there are several hundred baths operating with natural thermal waters. The real value and attraction of these spas is provided by the crystal clear medicinal waters erupting from the earth and piped into the pools without any water treatment.
Experience, practice and the medical checks of several decades, even centuries, have proved that Hungary's thermal waters have a curing effect. This was already known in Roman and Turkish times. Readers will find here precise information about the content and quality of the mineral and thermal waters each place enjoys, and about what medicinal treatments they offer.
A summarised list at the end of the guide covers mineral waters and their application as drinking cures. Hungary's spas naturally provide opportunities for rest, relaxation, entertainment and sports. Many foreign guests know and appreciate these spas, and they return regularly. However, we are not complacent and we aim to attract more visitors. The programmes and treatments the spas offer are continuously extended and the facilities are improved. All of Hungary's well-known spas are located in a pleasant environment, and in addition to bathing offer opportunities for excursions, sightseeing and other cultural programmes. Visitors will naturally find hospitality and specialities of Hungarian cuisine both inside the spas and in their environs.
