For the moment let us forget Eastern Standard, Pacific and even Greenwich Mean Time. ' For our convenience it is now Curtain Time, or soon will be. In about an hour the curtains in all the theatres of the world will go up. Theatres which don't need curtains will continue not to need them. Some of the actors are already in their dressing-rooms. They don't want to receive visitors now, but 1 will introduce you to them as if I were Prospero ^ and they spirits. Here is one, trying to possess another man's body and mind. On his dressing-table are wigs on blocks, noses in putty or plastic, beards and whiskers, odd bottles and small brushes of all shapes. Two mirrors, at least. The large mirror and the hand mirror. He is as particular as a surgeon about the dressing-table lights. No electrician could ever design a set of lights to satisfy all actors; which is possibly why no electrician ever seems to try. Beside the sticks and tins lies the actor's watch. The hands are marching faster than in the earlier hours, it would seem. He is not in a hurry, but lost minutes at this hour fall like shillings in the slot. Miu-
