FOREWORD
Eleven hundred years ago the birth of a nation took place. That was a point in time a beginning point. — A birth is a significant event, for it ushers a new life into the world. That new life is vulnerable during its infancy and formative years, and requires feeding, care and protection for it to survive, grow and attain an independent and responsible state.
The Hungarian students from Horváth Mihály Gimnázium in Szentes whose thoughts and ideas are expressed within the following pages were born into an era marked by the cold war and a division between East and West. Now the doors have opened, but amid a dizzying rate of change and increased economic uncertainty, many teenagers wonder what their future prospects and the destiny of their country will be.
Their writings reflect a point in time of their life ourney - a journey accompanied by the hopes, fears and challenges of finding their place in a world which they first entered as infants, but which will soon call them to reenter as adults - adults who will have inherited what their elders have bequeathed them, and who will carry with them the shape of the future.
"Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Right Now is the time its bones are being formed, blood is being made and senses are being developed.
To this child we cannot answer, Tomorrow."
- Gabriela Mistral (Chilean Poet)
